What foundations are suitable for the laying of flooring?
What climate conditions are required for the laying of flooring?
Protocol of flooring preparation in cases of heated floors:
Before we begin to lay flooring onto new screed, we must first check, if the screed is suitable for laying. A surface check is carried out for cracks or other visible defects.
For the laying of flooring, it is important how the screed was made and how long it dried. A moisture measurement has to be carried out. Allowed maximum moisture in screed is 1.8% for wooden floorings or 2% for flexible and textile floorings. We must also pay attention to the straightness of the screed. We verify it with a straight lath and a measuring hook. Allowed deviations are read from the table, prescribed by the EN standard 18202, table 3, lines 3 and 4.
Should the foundation be old screed or existing flooring such as parquet, ceramics, stone or others, we recommend that you contact our technical service. We will be happy to take a look at the surface at the building and prepare a technical solution for you. Thus, you will ensure a professional installation of the new flooring, which will serve you optimally.
In the area, where the final flooring will be laid, the temperature must be stable, between a minimum of 15°C (or 3°C above dewpoint) in the foundation and a minimum of 18°C in the room, with a stable air humidity between 35-65%.
When flooring is laid onto the floor, where heating is installed, the following has to be taken into consideration for the best possible conditions and results of flooring installation:
The highest allowed humidity for the laying of flooring is under 1.7 – 2% for concrete and 0.2 – 0.5% for anhydrite screed.
After the prescribed settling time for screed, a test start of the heating system is required, carried out in the following way:
- The screed is heated through gradual increase of temperature. We increase the temperature for about 2°C per day, until the heating liquid (water) achieves 35-40°C which the premises will be heated at.
- The screed is heated at the highest temperature for at least two weeks (heated water has the temperature of approximately 35°C).
- The heating temperature is gradually reduced, for about 5°C a day.
- Ground heating is switched off for about 10 days.
- The gradual start-up of the ground heating is repeated as described above. Ground heating must be switched on for a few days this time as well.
- The shutdown of the ground heating system is repeated.
The final flooring may be laid a few days after the shutdown of the ground heating, when the surface temperature of the base is between 15 and 18°C
